I am a Professor at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in Sweden. In 2025, I was appointed a Wallenberg Scholar.
My research deals with questions in the intersection between democratic institutions and political violence, including i) the causes and consequences of election violence ii) the effect of violence and threat on citizens’ political attitudes and behavior and iii) how contentious politics influence transitions towards and away from democracy.
